Account and security
This guide covers managing your Budgeto account and how your data's kept safe.
Managing your login
Your account is secured with your email and password. From your settings you can
update your account details and keep your sign-in info current.
If you ever forget your password, use the forgot password flow to get a
reset link and set a new one.
Keeping your account secure
A few simple habits go a long way:
- Use a strong, unique password that you don't reuse on other sites.
- Keep the email address on your account up to date so you can always recover
access. - Sign out on shared or public devices.
How your data is handled
Budgeto treats your financial information as private by default. Your budget
data is encrypted in transit and at rest, used only to power your budgeting
experience, and never sold or sent to a third-party AI. Access on our side is
tightly restricted to running and supporting the service. We also don't collect
a phone number or government ID — good for your privacy, but it means that if
you lose access we've no way to confirm it's really you. So keep your email and
recovery codes safe: lose both and we can only delete the account, not recover
it.

Updating your details
From your settings you can tweak personal preferences like your preferred name,
currency, and display options. These changes take effect across the app so
Budgeto stays set up the way you like it.
Need to recover access?
If you're locked out:
- Use the forgot password option to trigger a reset email.
- Follow the link to set a new password.
- If 2FA is on, sign in with a recovery code, then turn 2FA off from Settings.
If you've lost access to your account email and your recovery codes, the
account can't be recovered. Because we don't collect a phone number or ID,
there's no way for us to confirm it's really you — so for your protection we can
only delete the account, not hand it over. Keep your email and recovery codes
safe.
